7 Ways To Overcome Loneliness As You Self Isolate

With the rate of depression increasing all over the world during this isolation period, it is safe to say that the mental health of a lot of people is currently at an all-time low. People are also losing their sources of livelihood and this makes it increasingly hard for them to cope with the times. One thing you should remember is the fact that we are all in this together. Also, tough times don't last but tough people do. It is OK to feel lonely from time to time but we can also tackle this feeling of loneliness with conscious efforts.



Here are ways you can overcome loneliness during this lockdown period;

1. Write it down
Writing has been known as an age-old stress reliever. Sometimes, pick up a pen and just scribble your thoughts or an action plan. This could help declutter your mind and lift some burden off you. Who knows? You could even discover writing as a hidden talent or a channel to offload toxic thoughts.



2. Have close friends and family you can talk to
Loneliness can be curbed if an individual has close friends and families who they can relate to on a personal level. Forget the social media friends and connect with those you can call, text or chat with instead. Focus on building quality in-person relationships with people that would legit be there for you during your low periods?

3. Work out
It’s easy to start missing out on your regular workout routine being cooped up at home and looking after kids or having to adjust to different schedules. Turning a gym routine into a home routine isn’t as hard as you might think though, all you have to do is pick from the easy-to-do exercises you can practice at home. With this, you can keep fit, stay healthy and overcome loneliness.

4. Watch Movies
Asides from doing a home work out, you can also spice your evening with some interesting movies from several online platforms. There are loads of great moves that would make your evening a pleasant one. You can get some of these movies from Netflix, Showmaxx, IrokoTV, etc.

5. Play Games/Video Games
To keep your heads-up and your home fun during this lockdown period you need to include games into your daily routine. Play games that engage your mind such as Sudoku, crossword puzzles, solitaire, or online chess, with this you can overcome loneliness.

6. Learn New Skills/ Take an Online Course
This is the best time for you to improve and learn a new skill to advance your life and career. With the lockdown, you now have more time for yourself, engage yourself by learning a new skill, improve on the new ones or learn an online course. Equipping yourself with a new skill would help advance your career after the lockdown and help you overcome loneliness as we all await its expiration.

7. Listen to Music
Listen to all types of music (classic, hiphop, reggae, afrobeats e.t.c).
